History Day LA
The Los Angeles Colony will be attending, and is looking for more volunteers for this period costume event. We will have a complete set of Mayflower Silver books to research with.
The event is held at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa. It usually runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 March 13th 2010. Students are presenting programs or exhibits and being judged. There are also exhibits and reenactments from various time periods for the students, their parents and teachers to enjoy. The Sons of the American Revolution sets up a small encampment with General George Washington there to talk to the students plus recruitment into the Continental Line. The color Guard does musket and marching demonstrations. There is a blacksmith set up demonstrating some early metal working. Some of the groups demonstrate games, cooking, music, etc from various periods.They also teach colonial period "English Country Dancing."
They will have one large Marquee tent which houses early documents (Declaration of Independence, Constitution, etc.) on display, some history books, and has some audio stories. A 11 ft x 11 ft Square Marquee will have someone from the Order of Founders and Patriots to discuss genealogy and the book "Why America is Free.
